Sierra Blanca is the mountain range that shelters Marbella and gives it its mild climate. Its best-known peak, La Concha, rises to about 1,215 metres above the town, and some of the coast's most private estates spread out at its feet.

Elviria, in eastern Marbella, combines wide beaches, pine woods and the natural setting of the Artola Dunes, with the small Cabopino marina close by: Marbella at its most relaxed and natural.

San Pedro Alcántara began in 1860 as the Marquis of Duero's farming colony and is now the big family town of western Marbella, with its boulevard, seafront promenade and calm beaches.

The Costa del Sol's most famous marina. Opened in 1970 by developer José Banús, it brings together superyachts, luxury boutiques, terraces and Marbella's best-known nightlife, about 6 km west of the town centre.

The Golden Mile is the stretch of coast between Marbella town and Puerto Banús. Marbella's glamour was born here with the Marbella Club Hotel in the 1950s, and today it gathers five-star hotels, beachfront villas and some of Europe's most exclusive homes.

The Old Town is Marbella's historic heart: whitewashed lanes, flower pots and the Plaza de los Naranjos, laid out in the 16th century after the Christian conquest, with the Town Hall and its terraces under the orange trees.
